Abstract

To compare the usefulness of sialography, sonography and computed tomography in the diagnosis of salivary gland messes, 49 patients with masses in the salivary gland or around the gland were evaluated retrospectively. Seventeen intraglandular benign tumors, 10 intraglandular malignant tumors, 12 glandular inflammations, 3 sialolithiases; and 7 extraglandular masses were included in this study. Findings of 29 sialography, 28 sonography and 17 computed tomography in 49 patients were analyzed. Sonography was the best method for the screening of salivary gland masses and for the differentiation between extraglandular and intraglandular masses. Computed tomography was the best in the evaluation of large mass or suggested malignancy. Both sialography and sonography were needed in the cases of glandular inflammation and sialolithiasis.
